Mind Over Matter

It can be difficult to change your way of thinking in order to realize your dreams. Attitude is the key to either your success or failure. Whether you believe you can or you can’t, you’re right! Studies have shown that positivity can reduce stress and change your outlook on all aspects of your life.

Using this strategy to change your attitude toward every facet of your life will help you see how many ways you can change and improve your situation.

Changing your attitude isn’t always easy, but this is really a case of faking it until you make it. Instead of thinking about how tired you are at the end of the work day, actively think (or even say out loud), “Wow, I accomplished a lot today!”

Recognizing little successes, mo matter how small, reminds you that you don’t have to be perfect to be progressing. Make a daily list every morning; check it off throughout the day. Look over your list before you go to bed and use it to propel you forward.

Remember: even one accomplishment is better than none.

Need some real-world examples? Imagine that your partner is working a lot of overtime. You’re getting super frustrated with having to deal with your little ones all by yourself — and you miss spending time with your partner too.

It’s easy to get wrapped up in these negatives, forgetting about the positives. Think about all the ways your partner’s overtime is helpful. That extra money helps you pay the bills, and it might even let you plan a family vacation this year, too.

Suppose that you had planned a night out with your friends but your boss asks you to work late. You are bummed that you have to miss a fun evening but you remind yourself that working extra hours will give your paycheck a nice boost and you will have extra funds for the next night out. You might be able to have an entree instead of just appetizers!

Let positivity be your mantra and you’ll soon see a change in your reality.

Get Organized

One of the hardest things to do is get out of your comfortable routine and shake things up. Getting organized by creating a goal and plans to achieve that goal is a good way to begin. Breaking down your goals into specific steps is important in order to keep you thinking positively, and feeling that you are progressing.

Suppose you want to change jobs. While the job you have is comfortable and pays decently you want more of a challenge and a boost to your bank account. The first step is to sit down and decide what you need to do to make this happen. Do you need to take a class? Maybe you need to update your resume, or even get more reliable transportation. It can be overwhelming to contemplate, but the success of achieving your goals is empowering!

Sit down and plan what you need to do to make your new career a reality. Break down every goal you have and keep a notebook and/or vision board to help you see your progress. While it may not happen overnight, each day you can take steps to work toward your goal.

Work Toward Goals Every Day

If you know what you want out of life, you know it will take work to make a change. But that doesn’t mean you need to strive for perfection, either; in fact, you can actually sabotage yourself if you do.

Instead of trying to accomplish everything at once, get specific. Set short and long-term goals, make checklists, and do at least one thing every single day to help you move through your lists.

You will have good days.

You will have bad days.

That’s okay!

Let’s say you want to go back to school.  Even if all you can do right at this moment is look up different degree programs, it’s still something. You might have to crawl forward on the worst days but it still counts as success. Schedule at least a few minutes every day to look over your lists, check your vision board and do something to change your reality.

By using these steps you can begin making changes in your life, achieve your dreams and completely alter your reality. No one can do it for you, but the changes in this article will give you a head start on living your best life!
